CFI head intern

The Centre for Imagination (CFI) is an inclusive space where students can explore their ideas, lead activities, and collaborate with peers and staff. As the Head Intern for the past two years, my role has been to help shape and execute student ideas into something tangible such as camps, discussions and weekly initiatives. CFI acts as a bridge between the student body and various school organizations, including the café, early years program, STUCO, NHS, and the library council. It provides a platform for students to develop and execute innovative projects, organize events, and lead community-driven activities. Some of the main aims we have at CFI is to ensure and promote:

Some of the major events carried out by us in CFI within the past two years

Yearbook co-head

Being part of the Yearbook Team is to celebrate the year’s most memorable moments through creative and collaborative work. The process involves designing layouts, capturing photographs, editing content, and organizing the yearbook. As a co-head of the design team, my role has been to ensure that the final product is cohesive, engaging, and reflective of the school community’s spirit.

Athena - Peer tutoring

The Athena Peer Tutoring Program was designed to help Grade 10 students prepare for their e-assessments. As a student who succeeded in the areas I volunteered to tutor English, Individuals and Societies (INS), and the e-Portfolio for Physical and Health Education (PHE). I joined this program to help students manage this difficult time. We arrange sessions based on their availability and the areas they require assistance with. During these meetings, we offer feedback on tasks, share resources like study notes and previous examples, and help students understand tough topics. The goal is not only to increase their academic achievement, but also to reduce stress and build confidence.

Kimoi Agriculture Project - Farmers Market

We collaborated with a nearby village called Kimoi. We spent about 6 months meeting them and planning visits to gain a better understanding of their situation. I decided to be a part of the agriculture team which helped the village promote their vegetation since market prices were too low for them and this was their only form of income. After months of planning and organising, we finally hold farmers markets in school every Thursday to promote their produce. We send out forms to the entire student and staff body for them to pre order vegetables. This list is then sent to the village head who organises the vegetables and sends it to school. All the funds are collected and given back to the village. Alongside the farmers markets, we hold small fundraisers from time to time to collect any extra funds which could help them with their farming.

Clothes upcycling

Upcycled items made from discarded materials within the boarding school and the stall. Product goal: My product goal is to use what I have learned to make a wide variety of upcycled products including banners, coasters, tote bags, table mats, notebooks, laptop sleeves, bowties etc. These items not only look good, but they also demonstrate my knowledge of eco-friendly fashion and creative repurposing strategies. By using these techniques, I hope to create goods that are not only aesthetically pleasing but also show my dedication to minimising the negative effects of fashion manufacturing on the environment within the boarding school. As a result, the products I produce will serve as both evidence of my knowledge and of the progress I have made on my path to development. The products were sold in school and the funds were given to an NGO which helped the ladies expand their business and purchase extra sewing machines and upcycling materials.

Ben initiative

Foster and take care of stray dogs which are in need of care and homes. If not for adoption we also raise funds to ensure dogs and puppies on the streets are being given food, reflective collars or beds. We hold food drives in which we collect food from the dining halls in school, separate the healthy foods and distribute it to the dogs near Landour.

Cow fostering project (outside of school)

The “मा” cow fostering project aims to reduce the mistreatment of cows in Dehradun, where illnesses, accidents, and abandonment are common despite cows’ high regard in Indian tradition. A successful baking sale was held at a fair or mela to raise money for this cause during the Basant festival, which marks the beginning of the rainy season for farmers. This event collected a sizable sum of 50 thousand rupees which was given to a reputable cow protection shelter. The money was used to give 3 calves which were rescued a while ago but the shelter could not give them sufficient help because of the scarce resources. This included better living shelters and higher-quality care like feed, medication etc. This initiative was led by me to advocate for animal (cow) rights.

Women's Empowerment

We collaborate with the local communities near Woodstock and focus on promoting and advocating for women

PINK: Breast cancer awareness

We hold meetings and educational gatherings consisting of presentations, fun games that include breast cancer information, provide preventive measures and persuade them to get tested.

Funding camps

This teaches them how to save and spend their money in a way which will benefit them and their families. We give them an opportunity to safely store their desired amounts in school which they deposit every month. When needed, they ask us for that money to pay for their kids fees, hospital bills, emergencies etc. For example, they deposit 2000 every month from their savings and over a span of 6 months when needed urgently they can take the 12,000 that they had deposited which would have otherwise been spent somewhere else.

Not just a piece of cloth

Raises awareness of periods. We create pads and encourage them to get rid of cotton as sanitary napkins and use pads. We do this through making them aware of the possible diseases they could get, making them aware of the effectiveness of sanitary napkins etc.
